PetroThin

PetroThin® - accurate, easy-to-use system grinding designed for grinding a wide range of geological samples, such as natural rocks and minerals, ceramics, refractories, concrete, etc. up to 35 microns. Stainless steel mounted diamond cutting disc (Ø 203 mm), and diamond grinding disc ( Ø 203mm). Using disks of boron nitride (available as accessories) PetroThin is also ideal for sample preparation of biomedical samples. Vacuum holder for fixing the thin sections are easily adjusted to one of five sizes of glass slides by means of pins. Built-in vacuum pump provides the necessary vacuum to hold the sample in place during cutting and grinding. A vacuum gauge insures that the proper vacuum level is maintained. Innovative built-in filtration system removes moisture from the vacuum line during operation and automatically dries up the filter every time the pump turns off. Diamond cutting and grinding discs are fixed on the same shaft, therefore no need to remove the fixed sample between the two steps. Both drives exactly santarromana at the factory for easy and accurate settings. Two digital high precision micrometer used to control the thickness of the cut and polishing. The micrometer controlling the cut is graduated to the nearest 0.01 µm. and can be locked in any position, allowing you to cut duplicate samples at a preset thickness. Micrometer graduated in inches/ micrometers and has a LCD display for easy reading of information.
